Dear Dr. Wilson, and President Malina,
After giving it considerable thought, I have decided that it is not a good use of my limited campaign funds to advertise in the May AANA NewsBulletin. According to the the schedule below, the email ballot will be received by the members on May 9th at the latest. They will not receive their NewsBulletin until 5/11. Based upon my knowledge (admittedly somewhat limited) of previous elections, I feel that the majority of voters will have placed their vote prior to ever getting a chance to look at my ad, consequently the $430 I was planning on spending on a 1/4 page ad would be a poor investment. Seeing as I am running for Treasurer, I would not want to be setting an example of poor spending choices.
I am disappointed not to participate in what has become a long-honored tradition for our candidates- I always look forward to getting a good look at those running for our AANA offices – and I hope no one will interpret my failure to place an ad as lack of respect for the AANA or enthusiasm for my campaign. It’s just that I feel I have a duty and I must fulfill it.
I hope that this issue looms large enough to encourage greater thought as to how the AANA can support effective advertising for its candidates for office. Given our new website re-design, I would advocate for free webpages for each bona fide candidate, such that members can sample the offerings. It would be a true test of our candidates organizational and PR skills and allow members to get a better understanding of whom they should vote for.
Respectfully,
Dan Simonson, CRNA, MHPA
Candidate for AANA Treasurer.

You’ve got my vote Dan. I do believe accountability should be a big concept in our Government, as well as our Association. Thank you for your service.
